THE All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for Obokun /Oriade Federal Constituency, Dr Siji Olamiju, on Wednesday accused a member currently representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Wole Oke of sponsoring violent attack on members of his campaign team.
He alleged that Oke, who is the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the constituency of allegedly masterminding an attack on his members and campaign vehicles at Ase-Ijesa in which two persons were seriously injured by hoodlums.
Addressing newsmen at the premises of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State council, Osogbo, Olamiju also accused the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Ibokun, simply identified as Mr Taofeek of alleged complicity in the attack.
According to him, “we are about to approach the palace of the Alase of Ilase ijesha when we got the news that some of our members were under attack, we quickly went back to ascertain the degree of injury and attend to the victims.
“When we got to the scene, we realised that two of our members had been stabbed by broken bottles and seriously injured, and because we are law-abiding people, we directed the victims to go and make a formal complaint at a police station located in Ibokun.
“We were later called to be informed that instead of the DPO to allow those victims to make entry, they were surprisingly locked them up for no reason.

“We went back there and demanded an explanation which he declined, even after I contacted the Commissioner of Police and he gave directive for the people to be released, the PPO flagrantly flouted the order,” Olamiju remarked.
But, Hon Wole Oke, currently representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency has described the allegations as baseless and unfounded, saying he did not sponsor any attack on the campaign team of the APC candidate.
Reacting to the development, he said the APC candidate and his cohorts were liars and blackmailers, stating that they wanted to cast aspersions on him in order to rubbish his reputation and integrity, just as he called on the Police to investigate the matter.
According to Oke, ”I was not in Osun State when the incident happened, I don’t know the Divisional Police Officer in Ibokun and I have never met him in my life. I do not possess any firearm and I have never given any firearm to my teeming supporters in the constituency.”
“My supporters are law abiding citizens of the state, who conduct themselves in civilised ways. Every citizen of Obokun/Oriade knows that I am a man of peace. I don’t have a license to carry firearms. I don’t need to do that. I am a lawmaker and a lawyer by training. I am very familiar with our laws and I won’t be a lawbreaker,” Oke asserted.
When contacted, the Osun State Commissioner of Police Mr Fimihan Adeoye, when contacted, said he had already ordered an investigation into the incident, stressing that anybody found culpable would be made to face the full wrath.
