The Governorship Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State, Chief George Moghalu, has reaffirmed his confidence in the party’s victory in the November 8, 2025, election.
Moghalu gave the assurance on Friday at the official unveiling of Mrs Ifeoma Veronica Okaro as his running mate for the upcoming poll.
He dismissed insinuations about coalition and factionalism within the party, stressing that the party remained united and battle-ready for the contest.
Presenting Okaro to party members at a well-attended event, Moghalu explained that she was carefully chosen after due consultations to ensure a gender-balanced ticket.
He described Okaro as a committed party member with a wealth of experience, shared objectives, and a strategic vision to change the narratives of the state.
“Myself and my Deputy, Mrs Okaro, we have a commitment not to let you down. We have discussed and we have agreed to partner together to keep to all our promises. We have agreed to change the narratives.
“Your labour will not be in vain. Hold me to my promise. I don’t say what I cannot do. This confidence you have placed on me, I will not fail you, I will not disappoint you, I will not let you down,” he vowed.
Underscoring the importance of party loyalty, the LP flagbearer urged members to gird their loins and work for the success of the party in their various localities.
Moghalu, immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), recalled his outstanding performance in the agency, especially in the areas of transparency and accountability, pledging to replicate the same if elected.
His words, “I left a reasonable and impressive legacy in NIWA of which the staff are very happy about. I feel satisfied and fulfilled that I justified the confidence reposed in me. I’m eternally grateful to God for providing the platform.
“Anambra is a unique state, with all the potentials. All the people need is the enabling environment to thrive.
“Our biggest challenge is not infrastructure deficit, but that the people has lost confidence in government. They see government as fraud.
“We must restore that confidence and the only way to do that is through good governance and fear of God and accountability, and address insecurity.
“Labour Party will definitely emerge victorious in the election as long as the party remain united and battle ready for the contest.”
In her acceptance speech, Mrs Ifeoma Okaro thanked God for her nomination and appreciated the governorship candidate as well as the entire party structure for having confidence and faith in her.
She sued for the support of party faithful to enable the Labour Party win the gubernatorial poll, assuring her unflinching loyalty to the party.
A chieftain of the party and Member of the House of Representatives, Hon George Ozodinobi, described Moghalu as a very consistent politician who should be supported to wrest power from the incumbent.
Acknowledging that the contest would be tough, Ozodinobi noted that the party has the structure and capacity to unseat the ruling party.
Earlier, the State Chairman of the party, Chief Ugochukwu Emeh, noted that the party’s flagbearer has endeared himself to the people of the state with his track record, integrity, and commitment to deliver on his promises.
Okaro, a retired educationist and immediate past Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), left government service at DMGS Onitsha in 2014 and currently heads the Education Directorate of the Anglican Communion.
She hails from Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
