The wife of the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ibadan North-East Local Government Area of Oyo State, Mrs. Aderonke Afuye, has charged women in the council area to be alive to their responsibilities as wives and mothers by taking adequate care of their families, especially children.
Mrs Afuye gave the charge during the inauguration of executive members of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Ibadan North East Local Government chapter.
Afuye, in a release signed by the council Director of Information, Mr ‘Bimbo Ladepo, decried the alarming increase in rate of child abuse, especially sexual abuse of little girls by close relatives, teachers and neighbours.
She, therefore, appealed to women to be more vigilant and also desist from engaging children in street hawking.
While expressing her gratitude to the wife of the state governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, for being passionate about improving the standard of living of women through various development and empowerment programmes, Mrs Afuye noted that women are progressive instruments and have contributed immensely to the peace, stability and progress that permeate the state.
She further stated that the local government recently organised empowerment training programme in soap bleach and disinfectant making for women in the council area.
While decorating the wife of the council boss as Matron of NCWS, the Oyo State Acting President of NCWS, Mrs Kemi Adeleke commended Mrs. Afuye for her support to women and children in the local government area.
In her response the new President of NCWS, Ibadan North-East Local Government chapter, Mrs Taiwo Ogunbode, promised to engage in activities that will improve members’ welfare and businesses.
