The Special Counsel to the Governor of Oyo State, Chief Bolaji Ayorinde (SAN), on Sunday, stated that the death of the highly revered Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is a big loss to Nigeria as it came at a time when the country needs experienced traditional rulers to guide the nation aright.
He said the demise of the Alaafin has robbed the nation of his wisdom and wise counselling, adding that the late monarch never withheld his deep insights and rich perspectives from those who sought his guidance
Ayorinde in a condolence message expressed deep shock and sadness over the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who died in the late hours of Friday at the age of 83 years.
He described the late monarch as a “visionary and purposeful” leader, who has promoted peaceful coexistence across cultures in Nigeria and Yorubaland in particular.
According to him, Alaafin in his lifetime distinguished himself as a true leader, who pursued the peace, unity, and development of his people.
Ayorinde described the passing on of the late Oba Adeyemi as the end of an era, having spent 52 years on the throne and was the longest-serving Alaafin to date.

“I received the news of the transition of the highly esteemed royal father, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, with sadness. Kabiyesi passed on at a ripe age of 83, which we are extremely grateful to God for.
“Oba Adeyemi’s departure is a colossal loss to traditional institutions in the nation. His reign witnessed tremendous peace, and harmony among inhabitants of the ancient town of Oyo and Yoruba land in general.”
“I commiserate with Governor Seyi Makinde, the government and people of Oyo state who would now have to endure the demise of another top traditional ruler barely few months after the passing of the Olubadan and the Soun of Ogbomosho. The demise of these great monarchs also mark the end of an era and the beginning of a new order in these ancient cities,” Ayorinde said.
