NASARAWA State Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura has recorded a milestone achievement in land administration following his ability to sign 1,800 Certificate of Occupancy (CofOs) in six years.
The Commissioner for Lands and Town Planning, Hon. Sonny Agassi who disclosed this on Thursday in Lafia, while speaking to newsmen, said the achievement is the first of its kind since the inception of the state.
The Commissioner explained that, the governor brought the total number of signed CofOs to 1,800 when he recently signed 209 CofOs for collection.
He added the set of certificates signed are for residential purposes, industrial purposes and Small scale businesses.
“Some people may want to know why this is worth celebrating, between 1997 to 1999 only 310 CofOs were issued, between 1999 to 2007, only 214 CofOs were issued, between 2007 to 2011 only 24 CofOs were issued and now between May 2011 to August 2017, 1,800 CofOs have been issued. This is a milestone achievement,” he said.
He said the governor has set a target to signed 5,000 CofOs before the expiration of his tenure in May, 2019.
The commissioner noted that, with the hike in the issuance of CofOs in the state, socioeconomic activities of the state would be greatly impacted on.
“When you have your CofO, you can collect loan from the bank to do business and this will reflect on the economy. Also, having your land titled means you are the authentic owner of the land,” he explained.
