The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has recorded a major breakthrough in its anti-crime operations, securing 23 convictions for various offences between January and July 2025.
The convictions, secured under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, according to a statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, underscore a sustained drive against criminality across the state.
The convicted individuals were found guilty of offences ranging from stealing, assault, burglary, and felony to escape from lawful custody. Sentences handed down ranged from two weeks to three years’ imprisonment.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday and made available to journalists in Uyo, all legal proceedings were conducted in full compliance with constitutional provisions and law enforcement best practices.
The Command attributed its success to intensified crime prevention strategies, professional investigations, and effective prosecution. Residents in major towns like Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, Oron, and Eket have reportedly noticed a sharp decline in incidents of burglary, theft, and violent crimes—a trend credited to the Command’s renewed operational tactics.
The statement noted that since assuming office in late 2024, CP Azare has introduced key reforms, including enhanced community policing, rapid response mechanisms, retraining of officers, and direct supervision of field operations.
It commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication and hard work, assuring that exceptional performance would not go unrewarded.
It also acknowledged the collaborative support of the judiciary and the Ministry of Justice in driving these achievements.
“The Command remains committed to intelligence-driven policing, increased patrols, and public enlightenment to consolidate on the gains recorded so far.
“With 23 convictions secured in just six months, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command is positioning itself as a model for proactive and accountable policing, translating arrests into tangible justice, and building a foundation for enduring peace and public trust,” the statement noted.
