THE race towards clinching the governorship ticket of Oyo State is down to Adebayo Adelabu and Adeniyi Akintola as Joseph Tegbe, Olusola Ayandele and Owolabi Babalola announced their withdrawal at Adamasingba stadium, Ibadan, venue of the primaries.
Those who announced their withdrawal hinged their decision on ensuring the unity and progress of the party.
In their remarks to announce their withdrawal, Ayandele and Owolabi expressly stated their support for the candidature of Adelabu.
Several appeals were made to Akintola to also withdraw to make Adelabu the sole candidate but some of Akintola’s supporters in loud voices asked Akintola to go on even if he was to get only a vote.

Elections between Adelabu and Akintola have commenced with a total of 5,927 delegates expected to vote.
It would be recalled that former governor Adebayo Alao Akala and Azeez Adeduntan had within the last 24 hours announced their boycott of the primaries, noting that the process was unfair and tailored to favour a particular candidate.
