Adamawa govt commends family planning advocacy group, promises more support

The Adamawa State Government has commended the Family Planning Media Advocacy Group for its concerted efforts in creating awareness on the need to keep families safe.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Nedo Geoffrey, gave the commendation when the Family Planning Media Advocacy Group paid her a courtesy visit in her office as part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD).

She said the government of Adamawa State has been very proactive in healthcare, particularly in reducing maternal mortality.

She described the healthy nature of a woman in the home as indicative of a wealthy home, just as a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.

“We as a government will partner with any group that will work to improve the well-being of the people of the state,” she said.

“The Change Initiatives (TCI) has done well, I was present when the Family Planning programme was inaugurated some two years back, and from the reports we are getting, it is very encouraging and we will support anytime we are called upon.”

Earlier, the leader of the Family Planning Media Advocacy Group, Mrs Samamo Isjust Dedan, told the commissioner about the giant strides the group has made since its inauguration.

She noted that with the awareness created so far, more women now have access to family planning methods across the state.

“We have gone to all parts of the state including bordering towns with other countries, though with still some challenges,” she said.

“We are hoping to cover more grounds to ensure that more families get access to family planning plans that fit them.”

Mrs Dedan commended TCI and the Adamawa State Government for their support in ensuring that maternal mortality is reduced to the barest minimum.
