The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has mourned the death of its one-time Secretary General and former Military Administrator of Kebbi State, late (rtd.) Colonel John I. P. Ubah, describing it as a sad, and great loss to the region and Nigeria
The former scribe of the forum died in Abuja after a period of illness.
He was, on Saturday, 24th August, 2024, laid to rest at the Military Cemetery, Abuja, with full military honours.
The statement which was signed by its National Publicity Secretary,Professor Muhammad Tukur Baba remarked that the solemn occasion was witnessed by family, former colleagues in military service, friends and loved ones.
“At the occasion, ACF was at hand to pay tributes and was ably represented by a delegation from the national Secretariat led by its Chairman, Mr. Mamman Mike Osuman as well as a contingent from the head office and of the ACF’s State Chapter from Benue State.
“Earlier, on 20th August, 2024, an ACF delegation led by Mallam Murtala Aliyu, ACF Secretary General, was at the Ubah Family’s residence at Garki, Abuja on a condolence visit, during which reminiscence of the late (rtd.) Colonel Ubah’s passion for the ACF were recalled.
“The late Colonel Ubah (rtd.) had enjoyed a distinguished military career which included serving as Commanding Officer of the 7 Brigade of Guards as well as, from 1996 to 1998, Military Administrator of Kebbi State.
“In the arts/intellectual realm, late Colonel Ubah (rtd.) was also an author and accomplished poet of repute and, as a person of great humility, Colonel Ubah (rtd.) was a real officer and gentle man. Post military career, late Colonel Ubah (rtd.) had served as Secretary General of ACF, from 2014 to 2017, a reflection of his life-long passion for Arewa and the organization and the fate of Arewa in the context of the social, economic and political affairs of Nigeria.
“The erstwhile Secretary General’s last outing at ACF was at National Executive Committee’s meeting in June, 2024, at Kaduna where he urged the strengthening of cooperation and solidarity among members and encouraged ACF to remain steadfast in its efforts to stand for and represent the interests of the region.
“ACF hereby again pays tribute to this illustrious son of Arewa and Nigeria, prays for the peaceful repose of his soul.
“While again condoling the family, ACF urges loved ones left behind by late Colonel Ubah (rtd.) to take solace in the legacy of his distinguished service to the Arewa and the nation. It is hereby hoped that members of the family will sustain his cherished legacies,” the statement read.
