A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ambassador Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, has expressed sorrow over the tragic helicopter crash in Ghana that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including the country’s ministers of defence and environment.
In a condolence message dated August 10, 2025, and addressed to the President of the Republic of Ghana, John Mahama, Mumuni described the incident as a devastating loss for the West African nation.
A copy of the message was also forwarded to the Jubilee House, the presidential palace in Accra. In it, the renowned author wrote: “I am writing to express my deepest condolences following the tragic helicopter accident that claimed the lives of esteemed government officials.
“This devastating event has left a profound mark on the nation, and my heart goes out to you in this time of sorrow.”
Ambassador Mumuni praised the late officials, including the Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, for their dedicated service to the Republic.
He noted that their contributions to governance and national development were “immeasurable,” and that their commitment to the welfare of citizens “will be greatly missed.”
“I cannot imagine the grief felt by their loved ones as they navigate this unfathomable loss. Please convey my sympathies to the families of those who perished. They are in my thoughts and prayers during this incredibly challenging time,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to draw on the nation’s well-known spirit of unity and resilience in the face of tragedy and called for the legacy of the departed to inspire continued national progress.
“As we mourn the losses, may we also honour their memories through collective strength and determination. I pray for comfort and healing for the families and for the nation,” the chartered mediator and conciliator added.
