Benue governor, Samuel Ortom and his counterpart in Nasarawa state, Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura met a month ago and came out with a communique to find lasting solution to the incessant crises between Agatu and Fulani herdsmen.
Part of the communique had read, ‘Fulani herdsmen would only be permitted to graze their cattle at the end of February, 2017 after the harvest season.’
“In line with the agreement reached by Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom and his counterpart in Nasarawa state. Alhaji Tanko Al-Makura over 50,000 cows has moved into Agatu communities for grazing”.
“Our people received them with joy and this goes a long way to demonstrate the Agatu people are peace loving people”.
The Agatu council boss thereby called on herdsmen not to allow their cattle stray in farmland to avoid destruction.
The council boss also denied the involvement of Agatu youths in the butchering of 52 cows at Adoka in Otukpo local government area of the state.
“From the investigation we carried out none of Agatu youth was connected to the butchering of the 52 cows in Adoka’.
Inalegwu who appreciated the efforts of governor Ortom in restoring peace in the troubled Agatu areas said that the people if Agatu would continue to reciprocate the gestures by living in with their neighbours.
Speaking on the ultimatum given to elders of Agatu to fish out killers of the slain soldier in Agatu , the council boss said that Agatu people were yet to arrest killers of the slain soldier, Badamasi Aminu
“It is unfortunate that a soldier who was on peace keeping mission was gruesomely murdered, we apologize to the Chief of Army Staff, and the council is working hard to apprehend the killers’.
