Edo State
Former governor of Edo State and aspirant for the national chairmanship position of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has taken a swipe at a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, over his recent resignation from the party, noting that the party was ready to engage the opposition on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oshiomhole, in a television interview, said that Oyinlola could not challenge APC for not doing better than the PDP and the military to which he belonged in the past and which ruined the country.
“Just three years ago, my party the APC took over the Federal Government, I don’t think he [Oyinlola] will ever suggest that what he contributed in ruining for 16 years, the foundation he contributed in weakening as a military governor, that all of that could have been fixed as magic over night as a military governor,” Oshiomhole stressed.
But when contacted, Prince Oyinlola said he would not react at this stage to Oshiomhole who is still an ordinary aspirant seeking attention.
“Why is he jumping the gun? Or has he become his party’s spokesman already? He should work hard and pray hard to realise his ambition first before abusing perceived opponents. I am too seasoned in strategy and tactics to fall for his ploy. He can’t draw me out at this stage. Let him look for rookies like him to engage,” Prince Oyinlola said.
This was as Oshiomhole promised to put an end to internal strife in the ruling party, saying that he recognised that the APC could do a couple of things better as a governing party in terms of managing its internal conflict, ending the rift between the executive and legislature.
He said: “We must recognise that we all belong to the same government and I have those tools to find the courage to call a spade a spade like some of the grievances some of our party members are having. I should be able to encourage the president to begin to review how we manage our people.”
On the letter by the newPDP contingent in the APC, which recently demanded better treatment within the party, he maintained that the issues could be addressed.
Oshimhole stated that the Buhari administration had been able to sustain the war against corruption, agreeing, however, that the war was still a work in progress.
The former governor declared that he had no idea about being an anointed candidate of the Presidency but that he felt privileged to have the endorsement of President Buhari and other leaders of the party from across the country.
