The Commander of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, Mr Adetunji Adeleye, on Wednesday disclosed that no fewer than 10,000 applications have been received from people who applied for the recruitment into the corps.

Adeleye, who disclosed this while on inspection to farmland destroyed by some herdsmen and their cows, said the screening exercise for the prospective officers is ongoing.

He said all successful applicants would commence training immediately saying the Ondo state corps will be an envy of all other states.

While speaking on the destruction of farmlands by cows, he disclosed that officials of the corps have arrested 42 cows for destroying farmlands around Alagbaka extension in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

According to him, the cows were arrested after series of complaints by owners of the farmlands in the axis and the herders failed to control their cows.

He explained that over eight separate farmlands were destroyed with crops like maize and cassava were completely destroyed while the herders who were said to heavily armed chased away the farmers from their farms

He said the owners of the farms contacted the Amotekun Corps who visited the farms to access the affected farmlands to confirm their claims.

Adeleye confirmed that the herders attempted to attack a joint security network including Agro-Rangers of the NSCDC who visited the scene but they were overpowered by the security operatives, leading to the arrest of the cows while the herders ran away.

He warned Fulani herdsmen in the state to desist from destroying farmlands, advising them to rear their cows in confined areas to avoid the destruction of farmlands and clash with farmers.

He also appealed to farmers not to take the law into their hands but should always endeavour to alert the Corps for necessary actions.
