Kano State Government, in its effort to guide against breakdown of waterborne diseases, has restored water supply to three communities, which had been lacking drinkable water for over ten years
The benefiting communities are: Kunya, Wailare and Kilawa in Minjibir, Makoda and Dambatta Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Umar Haruna Doguwa,told the journalists shortly after inspecting water taps supplying water in the benefiting communities,that tap water had stopped running for over ten years
Doguwa disclosed that the state government restored water to the three towns after about ten years of lack of water, which subjected the people to untold hardships.
He said, “I can’t imagine a town like Dambatta will be without water for about ten years.This is unacceptable.We are determined to restore water supply to that town soon,”
He expressed his ministry’s determination to also restore water supply to Dambatta, headquarters of Dambatta Local Government, which he said had been without water for about ten years.
He then emphasised that his ministry is working assiduously to clear the obstacles hindering the restoration of water to the town which include the rusting of pipes and the vandalization of the valve on the pipeline at Thomas Dam.
According to him, “The ministry is also repairing pipes that had been broken over time so as to ensure smooth flow of water to the benefiting communities.
“All these obstacles are surmountable, and I can assure you that with the commitment of His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, we are going to surmount them.
The Governor is totally committed to the transformation of the state water sector towards the provision of portable water to all parts of the state.
He added that the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has given the go-ahead to the ministry to make it a top priority that all the water board across the state were provided with all necessary items to ensure uninterrupted water to the various communities
The Commissioner then warned that the state government would not take it lightly with anybody diverted treated water meant for people to their farmland
“We have set up committee to look into this ugly situation and inform the state government over this shady attitude,” he said.
