GOVERNOR Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state has directed security agencies in the state to apprehend those behind the gruesome murder of 44 people at Birane village in Zurmi Local government area of the state.
It should be recalled that the 44 people were killed on Wednesday afternoon on their way to honour a wedding in a nearby village.
While, commiserating with the bereaved families in a statement made available to the Saturday Tribune and signed by the Director of Press, Government House Gusau, Aminu Ibrahim, Yari described the attack as barbaric carried out by unscrupulous criminal elements.
The governor then directed security agencies in the state to go after the criminals and apprehend them, saying, his government remain committed to protecting the lives and property of its citizenry.
The governor further stated that the issue of insecurity has continued to deflect the meagre resources meant for the development of our dear state, adding that, it is seriously retarding the effort of the state government, because, without peace, meaningful development cannot be achieved.

He said on behalf of himself, family and government of Zamfara State, he condoled with the bereaved families and prayed Allah to grant them eternal rest and also with the wounded one’s quick recovery.
While re-emphasising the need for all security agencies in the state to redouble their efforts in addressing these unwanted and ugly acts, he maintained that the government and people of Zamfara would remain grateful to the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for deployment of more security personnel to the state.
Governor Yari, therefore, urged individuals, group and institutions to continue to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement to the nearest security outfit for necessary action.
