Members of the patriotic front Bungudu local government in Zamfara state have rejected Nura Umar Abdullahi as People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate for Bungudu LGA and called on Governor Dauda Lawal, PDP, and the Zamfara state Independent Electoral Commission (ZASIEC) to substitute the candidate.
The rejection came barely ten days to the local government council elections in the state.
Speaking with newsmen on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the patriotic front community, Malam Danbungudu lamented that the PDP candidate was alleged to have embezzled council resources while he was the sole administrator of the same Bungudu LGC.
“We wish to use this opportunity and call for the removal and substitution of Nura Umar Abdullahi as a candidate for the upcoming local government election in the state.
“Law no. 4 official gazette of Zamfara State Independent Electoral Commission and other matter 2017 Section (h) provides that any person indicted for embezzlement of fund which indictment have been accepted by the state government shall not contest the office of the Chairman of any local government.
“You may recall that, various petitions have been written against Nura Umar Abdullahi as (Sole Administrator of Bungudu Local Government) and Governor Dauda Lawal directed DSS to investigate the matter.
“A report of indictment was sent to him by the DSS against him; therefore after the local government election opposition parties will approach the court and compel the DSS to release under the report before the court under freedom of information Act and subsequently disqualify Nura Umar Abdullahi on written to EFCC/ICPC to prosecute our candidate and finally lose Bungudu Local Government council to opposition.
“We are using this opportunity to call on you to substitute Nura Umar Abdullahi with any other candidate to avoid losing members of our great party the PDP in Bungudu Local government.”
