Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir has opined that the Federal Government of Nigeria has the capacity to stop the spate of insecurity in the country if it actually wants to do so.
The Governor who was speaking at the commissioning of the North-East Zonal Office of the National Office of Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) in Bauchi stressed that, “if the Federal Government will be bold to block GSM networks in the most porous areas in the country, the war against insurgency and other security challenges will be won”.
Represented at the occasion by the Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Usman Tilde, the Governor said that, “most of the crimes are perpetrated through calls. Negotiations for ransom are done vide the mobile phone, block the connection and that will be the end”.
Bala Mohammed though recognized that mobile network is an advanced technology that is associated with development, its misuse and misappropriation have brought more negativity than positivity to the development of the country.
The Governor opined that, “most criminality is committed using the network connections which is everywhere in the country. We just have to make decisions no matter how difficult in order to save lives of innocent Nigerians who have been under constant attacks by the bandits”.
He however commended NOTAP for doing a good job in ensuring acquisition and promoting technology in the country saying that the function is vital to the technological development of the country.
Bala Mohammed said that his administration has already inaugurated the management of the Institute of Petroleum technology sited in Alkaleri to enhance exploration for crude oil and gas in the state saying that it is part of the government’s effort at acquiring and promoting technology development.
The Governor then assured that his administration will continue to prioritize technological development in the state as well as engage in a collaborative effort with NOTAP in that direction.
