Six hundred and Forty stranded Nigerians in South Africa have registered to return back home following the willingness of the federal government to evacuate willing Nigerians back to safety.
Chairman, Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa said this Monday while Fielding questions from journalists after meeting with the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGO.
She said two air plane has been secured for the evacuation of Nigerians.
She assured those willing to return but are faced with the challenge of holding expired documents that the federal government has directed the Nigerian High Commission to provide them with documents that will make them join the airlifting back to Nigeria.

Dabiri-Erewa said the South African government need to show more commitment in prosecuting the eight policemen connected to the killing of Nigerians in the wake of xenophobia about a year ago while another four persons have been recently arrested.
She said the seeming unending prosecution of these policemen does not deter others who are willing to thread this criminal path.
Dabiri-Erewa also said the federal government is insistent on the compensation of Nigerians who suffered one form of loss or the other in the course of these attacks.
Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGO, Ajibola Basiru, said they called on the chairman of the Commission to further engage the executive on the status of the nation’s level of engagement on the matter.
Senator Bashiru said while Senate is concerned mover the matter and seeking updates from the executive the matter at this stage remains one to be best handled by the Executives.
