Workers day: We are still expecting full implementation of new minimum wage ― Anambra NLC

Anambra State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has reminded the State Governor, Willie Obiano to fully implement the new minimum wage of N30,000 and its consequential adjustment as agreed with Labour.

It also asked the governor to resolve all outstanding Labour issues.

The state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Jerry Nnubia, stated this in his May Day message on Saturday, at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, during the celebration.

He also appealed to the governor to intervene in other workers challenges including Contributory Pension Scheme, arrears of gratuity, problems of health sector unions, teachers, NASU; construction of affordable houses for workers, the Labour House, among others.

While calling on the government at all levels to come up with policies including skills acquisitions programme for the youths to be self-reliant, Labour commended Obiano for his regular payment of salaries and pensions as at when due and the recent construction of International Cargo airport in the state.

In his remarks, the state governor, Willie Obiano, represented by his deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, appealed to the workers to be patient, and promised to address other challenges in no distant time.

While appreciating the workers for supporting his administration, he urged them to vote APGA in the forthcoming November 6 governorship election in the state

On his part, the state president of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Adigwe Chikwelu, appealed to the National Assembly to reverse the decision of delisting LG from the 1999 Constitution/abolition of Local Government administration.

While informing the state government that NULGE, has only one leadership in Anambra state, urged members to take their job seriously at all times.

The state chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Ifeanyi Okechukwu, in his brief speech, commended the state governor for the prompt payment of workers salaries and the promotion of workers in 2019 and the 2020 promotion exercise which is expected to commence soon.
