A woman in Bavaria, Germany, has fallen victim to a shocking online scam after paying €3,300 ($3,841) for what she believed was a rare gold coin, only to receive an old cucumber in return.
The woman, from Birgland, a small town east of Nuremberg, reportedly found the coin listed on an online marketplace and contacted the seller to finalise the purchase.
Police said both parties agreed that payment would be made upon delivery of the item.
However, the woman was not at home when the package arrived, and her father, unaware of its contents, accepted the parcel and transferred the €3,300 as agreed.

“When the lady finally opened the package later that evening, she found only an old cucumber.”
Authorities confirmed that the alleged seller “doesn’t exist,” adding that locating the scammer would be “difficult.”
