Nigerian singer, Asake has addressed suggestions that he should sing more in English and less in Yoruba.
The singer stated that he is more comfortable expressing himself in his native language.
During an Instagram Live Q&A session with fans on Saturday, August 11, Asake emphasised that while he can sing in English, his preference is to sing in Yoruba.
Meanwhile, Asake’s response was unapologetic, saying, “If you fu*k with me, fu*k with me with my Yoruba, and if you don’t fu*k with me, don’t fu*k with me with my Yoruba. I cannot be what I am not. I am a real Yoruba man.” This statement reflects his commitment to staying true to his artistic identity and cultural heritage.
Also, Asake’s stance highlights the importance of authenticity in music and the value of showcasing one’s roots, with fans praising his honesty and dedication to promoting the Yoruba language through his music.
It will be recalled that in April 2023, Asake while appearing on ABC News, USA, tells the presenter how expressive he can be with Yoruba language:
He said, “Yoruba is so important to me and there are a lot of people that understand it. And to me, the way I understand music is like it’s a feeling. Sometimes you don’t even need to understand it.”
