Former Ogun State Governor and current Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, shocked many recently when he openly participated in an Islamic rite.
Senator Daniel, known for his Christian faith and active participation in church activities, left many stunned when he joined the Islamic prayers at the burial programme of Federal lawmaker, Adewumi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives.
The event, which took place in the presence of top dignitaries and religious clerics, set tongues wagging in the social and political circles.
The politician, along with other prominent people at the burial performed the Salat Al Janazah, a prayer meant to seek mercy and forgiveness for the deceased.
Sources close to the distinguished senator revealed his decision to join the prayers was not strange, they hinted at Daniel’s religious tolerance and his status as the Aare Musulumi of Ipokia and Amuludun Adeen of Ikija, two prominent Islamic religious titles.
Senator Daniel was said to have been moved by the emotional event at the burial programme and also his closeness with the late politician that answered a fiery nickname, ‘Ijaya’.
