Students of Richgate Divine School, Ibadan, who hold leadership positions and recently participated in the John C. Maxwell Leadership Programme, have shared what they learned. Blessing Agoro, Akpebe Chika, and Abisola Sulu served as facilitators of the leadership programme. In addition, Akpebe Chika coordinated the essay writing feedback of the students about the programme. KINGSLEY ALUMONA brings excerpts from the feedback:

Ogundiya Daniel, timekeeper

Firstly, what I learned during the leadership training was about my attitude towards different kinds of people. We should have good attitudes. I learned that we should have a good relationship with others. We should have self-control and should also be transparent, honest, and truthful in our ways.

Ojooluwa Anjola, social prefect

Leadership is the act of leading and being a role model for people to look up to. Being a leader, you must have a good attitude, clear priorities, and a goal-oriented approach to things. Attitude is the way we behave towards something or someone. A leader must possess fairness, tolerance, and consistency, among other qualities. Readers are leaders. A leader must be able to take responsibility for the people they are leading. A leader must have a close relationship with God.

Jasmine Inegbenijie, sport prefect

I learned that we should be confident and courageous. And we should always treat others fairly, not harshly. I also learned that we should work hard and always be thankful. I learned that we should face challenges and be smart, and also have good character.

Oluwadunsin Inioluwa, chapel prefect

Leadership is the ability to lead or be in a position of having followers who look up to you. I see leadership as a role which requires strength, resilience, and high self-esteem. Without these basic qualities, a person should not be in a position of leadership to avoid a breakdown of systems that can affect others. Leadership is suited for individuals with clear goals.

Ishola Anjolaoluwa, Assistant Social Prefect

As leaders, we must have good attitudes. We must prioritise being good and leading with love. Additionally, we must maintain a good relationship with the people we are leading. We should always add value to others.
