Please let me know what are bunions and how can they be handled so as not to cause any harm.

A bunion is a bony bump that forms on the joint at the base of your big toe. It occurs when some of the bones in the front part of your foot move out of place. This causes the tip of your big toe to get pulled toward the smaller toes and forces the joint at the base of your big toe to stick out. The skin over the bunion might be red and sore.
A bunion is also known by the medical term hallux valgus. Bunions can develop because of the shape of your foot, a foot deformity or a medical condition, such as arthritis, but the most common cause is the wearing of tight, narrow shoes. They don’t usually cause any harm, but in severe cases they can be very painful and crippling. People who do not wear shoes have normal feet and do not get bunions.
