THE Ogun State government, on Saturday, disclosed that the late Alaperu of Iperu Remo, Oba Idowu Basibo, would be accorded a befitting passage.
Secretary to the Ogun State government, Mr Olatokunbo Talabi, stated this during a condolence visit to the Council of Chiefs at the Alaperu’s Palace over the demise of the monarch who reigned for 23 years.
He described the late Oba as a man of integrity and good character whose passage had created a vacuum in the State Traditional Council.
Talabi said, “Some of us are very close to him, and the fact that he was the governor’s monarch made us closer to him.
“Kabiyesi, was not a cantankerous person in his lifetime. He was a very simple man and one that does not compromise his integrity. He was a very peaceful man.”
In the condolence register, the SSG wrote, “Adeiu, my royalty, your integrity speaks loudly for you. Rest in peace.”
The Head of the Council of Chiefs, High Chief, Olisa Rotimi Odutona, while speaking with Sunday Tribune, disclosed that the people of Iperu town are mourning the passage of the first-class monarch.
Odutona flanked by other members of the council, also described Oba Basibo, as a complete gentleman and a socialite of repute.
He said the official announcement about the Oba’s passage would be done after 14 days, urging the state government to give approval to the letter forwarded to it on the matter.
Chief Odutona said the entire Iperu Remo witnessed remarkable developments during Oba Basibo’s reign.
Meanwhile, former governor of the state and Senator representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, wrote in the condolence register that, “Our own Alaperu is gone. We are, however, happy that he was a great king who during his reign Iperu witnessed unprecedented development.
“I remember with nostalgia the times we spent together brainstorming on the development of Iperu. How God used me to promote the royal stool of Alaperu to a first-class stool, how with his cooperation, we were able to locate the international airport to the present location and how we cooperated with the Obas to ensure that the governorship come to Iperu in 2019, despite all odds.”
The Archbishop, Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, the Most Reverend (Dr) Olusina Fape, in his condolence message wrote: “Kabiyesi, we thank God for your life. You are a blessing to our generation. It was a great privilege knowing you. Your good works live after you.”
Also, the Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Dr Oluwatoyin Taiwo, wrote, “Alaperu of Iperu was a peacemaker and unifier. He was committed to the development and peace of Iperu land. We, as government, have lost a gem.”
The Onigege Wura, Akile Ijebu, Tunde Oladunjoye, wrote, “This is a personal loss to me. Kabiyesi was a jovial and appreciative personality. He was a lover of progress.”
