The Vice Chancellor of Dominican University, Ibadan, Oyo State, Professor Hyginus Ekwuazi, has emphasized the institution’s dedication to the mental and physical development of its staff and students.
In a statement provided to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, he highlighted the university’s commitment during a ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation’ event organized in Lagos over the weekend. The walk aimed to promote healthy living among the public and attracted various stakeholders.
Professor Ekwuazi stated, “At Dominican University, we believe in the holistic development of our students and staff. The ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation’ reflects our commitment to promoting physical exercise and healthy living, fostering a culture of well-being within our academic community.
“We take great pride in the turnout and anticipate the positive impact this event will have on the community. By promoting physical exercise and healthy living, the university aims to contribute to the prevention of sudden deaths among young people and raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.”
Chinwe Iloghalu; Chairperson Organising Committee instead of a committee member, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming response from participants, saying, “It is truly heartwarming to witness the support and enthusiasm of the academic community, private sector organizations, and the general public for this initiative. The ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation’ has successfully brought together individuals from diverse backgrounds, united in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.”
Former Chairman of SEPLAT, DR. ABC Orjiakor, who is the Chairman, Dominican University Fund Raising Committee, voiced his support for the event, stating, “I am delighted to see the tremendous enthusiasm and participation in the ‘Walk for a Healthy Nation.’ It is inspiring to witness the collective effort towards promoting physical and mental well-being. Initiatives like this play a crucial role in fostering a healthy lifestyle among Nigerians.”
