The Sokoto State Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has vowed to tackle the menace of almajiri syndrome causing concern to the North Western Nigeria and Sokoto in particular.
This was made knowns in a statement signed by the Director of press to the Deputy Governor of the state, Aminu Abdullahi Abubakar and released to journalists on Friday.
The statement further stated that Governor Tambuwal explained this after a meeting of prominent personalities of Sokoto origin who usually converged at Sultan’s Palace every Eid-el-Fitri celebrations to deliberate on issues of concern and find a lasting solution to Sokoto problems.
Tambuwal revealed that soon, a stakeholders meeting will be convened to see the end of almajiri’s syndrome which has deviated from the original seeking for knowledge to outright begging.
“The state government as a matter of concern has been on the issue of almajiri begging style and very soon we will call all those involved to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“Our children should be able to go to schools not hiding under almajiri system of education to start begging and in short time they will be exposed to dangerous habits which will, in turn, hurt us in near future,” he added.
Speaking on girl-child education, Governor Tambuwal disclosed that few days ago, he signed into law the girl-child right to education.
He explained that the parents and guardians of female children will be getting stipend using cash transfer to assist them financially so as to allow their children to attend schools with ease.
