A former Governor of Sokoto and current Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Wamakko, fumigation exercise personally sponsored by him has been flagged off at Sokoto South Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
While declaring the fumigation exercise which will gulp over N 8milllion flagged off, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the area, Alhaji Bello Mainasara, described the gesture by Senator Wamakko as a relief not only to the people of the area but to the state as a whole.
 The Chairman further extolled the efforts of the Senator for coming up with the exercise, which he said cannot come at a better time than now when the scourge of malaria was endemic.
He described the malaria pandemic as very formidable and dangerous, saying, “there is the need for a collective effort to tackle the menace.”
 Commenting on the exercise, Chairman of the spraying Association in the State, Alhaji Sani Bodinga, said the Association was given the responsibility to undertake the fumigation exercise in the targeted areas.
He further explained that the senator remained committed to helping the activities of the Association since when he was the Governor of the state.

He said the exercise will be conducted daily, adding that, already, a committee under Alhaji Buba Mairago, was set up to ensure proper monitoring of the exercise.
Earlier, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, who spoke through his representative, Dr. Bello Abubakar Wamakko averred that the motive behind the exercise was to help the communities in the state, to stem the tide of malaria menace.
 He said the exercise is targeting five local government areas in Sokoto metropolis, which include, Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Wamakko, Kware, and Dange Shuni and will last for the next thirty days.
Senator Wamakko further noted that the money earmarked for the exercise was for the purchase of Chemicals and the provision of other logistics for the programme.
A cross-section of the beneficiaries interviewed commended the efforts of Senator Wamakko and fervently prayed for the Almighty to reward him abundantly.
They called on well-meaning individuals in the state to emulate him, by coming up with similar people-oriented programs aimed at bringing succour to the needy and other less privileged in the society.
Areas covered during the day one of the exercise included, Shehu Jumaat Mosque area, Bello Way, Kwanni area, old Market, Mainiyyo, as well as some federal Establishments in the state, among others.
