A viral video has surfaced online showing candidates of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) writing their English Language paper under disturbing conditions late at night without electricity.
The footage, which has sparked widespread concern, revealed students relying on lanterns and mobile phone flashlights to complete their exam in near-total darkness.
The situation was brought to public attention on Wednesday by an X user identified as Omolomo_o, who posted a series of images and videos of the incident on his X account on Wednesday.
“This is a school WAEC centre in Nigeria currently, they’re writing WAEC right now,” he wrote alongside the visuals.
“It is 9:42pm and students are forced to use lamps to write their English WAEC exam in total darkness,” he added.
“This is currently in Katsina state. Someone sent to me. Those ones are still writing the exams in the midst of insecurity in the state. Why is everyone and the government quiet about this???”
In another post, he tweeted, “It’s 9pm in Nigeria, just to let you all know. Some SS3 students started their WAEC exam 8pm. This is one of the picture from Osun state. How can students be outside 9pm writing WAEC exams by this time??”
In another footage, parents were captured waiting outside the school premises for their children, who had reportedly just finished their exam around 10:45 p.m.
Another X user who also shared similar information tweeted, “My little sister called me around 9 p.m. to tell me they had just finished writing their exam. 😂 I was surprised!”
