The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunshola; The Chief Executive Officer, Geoplex Drillteq Ltd., Engr. Wole Ogunsanya and The Chairman, The University of Lagos, Faculty of Engineering Alumni Association (UNILAGFEAA), Engr. Dideolu Falobi have unveiled 12 lecturers’ offices donated by the Alumni Association.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony in Lagos, The Chairman, UNILAGFEAA, Mr Dideolu Falobi, revealed that the 1985 set had delivered four offices earlier, “We are pleased to report that 4No 116-seater classrooms are also under construction.
“Other projects in the N500m development bouquet of the Association include a two-storey students’ study centre/restaurant, an expansion of the car park, a general upgrade of the faculty’s buildings and laboratories, and an operational bus for the faculty.
“I seize this opportunity to call on the alumni of the faculty to come on board and contribute their quota to the improvement of the learning environment that was the stepping stone to wherever we may be now.” He said.
Speaking also, The donor, Mr Kolawole Ogunsanya, appealed to the government at all levels to focus on providing infrastructure.
Mr Kolawole noted that electricity is important, adding that most of the country’s agricultural products are wasted because there is no way to transport them to the facilities for preservation.
“Essentially, there is a lack of infrastructure, no road, no electricity, and water, for us to move forward in this country we have to focus on infrastructure. Electricity and road to start with.
“Electricity is important, we need roads, if you look at the productive sector, wherever you are, in the factory, you own a farm, for instance, the produce from those farms needs to be transported to the market.
“Most of our agricultural products are wasted because there is no way to transport them to the facilities that will allow us to preserve them.” He said.
In her remarks, UNILAG VC, Prof. Folasade Ogunshola emphasized on the need for an ambiance environment for those facilitating learning in order for them to teach well.
She, therefore, lauded the gesture of the Association for providing an enabling environment for both the students and lectures to thrive.
“For you to learn you need those who are facilitating learning to have an ambiance that allows them to keep learning.
“You can’t be a lecturer and not keep learning so when you are in a comfortable surrounding it makes it easy for you to be able to garner information to do the research, you’ve got to be comfortable.
“So when we have people come in to support a faculty, what they are doing is giving them the environment to thrive, and when they think right, students thrive and that’s what the alumni are doing.” she said.
