On Friday, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) admitted 8,956 candidates who met the minimum requirements for admission to the various programs offered at the university.
The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Florence Obi, disclosed this in her address at the 48th matriculation of the institution.
In her speech, the VC urged the students to follow all the advice they received during orientation and avoid all forms of anti-social activities such as cultism, rape, sexual harassment, fighting, theft, and drunkenness.
“You must be acquainted with the rules and regulations of the university in this race for your life fulfillment. You must be conscious of the fact that the officials of this race are your friends and that at the final crossline of the race, there will be only one judge—God, and only He can see you through the race.
“Second, it is expected that you will see the people at the sidelines of the race, your lecturers, and friends as those who can inspire you to victory in this important race in life.
“Third, you will equally be expected to encourage others in the race with you to be winners as well at the end, for there is really no competition with anybody. Everybody is expected to do their best and succeed.
She congratulated the new students for scaling through the screening exercise and passing through the gates of the university.
“My dear fresh students, welcome to the university. Enjoy a whole world of fun, learning, social and religious activities, hard work, and exposure to sustainable education.
“If you have any problems, please do not hesitate to approach any of our highly qualified and professional staff in academics and administration. They are the licensed operators of the various programs in the university and will offer you assistance. They will help you to be comfortable and enjoy learning in a conducive environment,” she reiterated.
