A statement by the spokesperson for the UN community Samantha Newport noted that the Secretary-General is appalled and strongly condemns the killing of Hauwa Liman the aid worker from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in north-east Nigeria on Monday.
The aid worker, Hauwa Liman, who had been held hostage since March 2018 when she was abducted was killed by her captors after the expiration of the deadline given for their ransom to be paid by the federal government.
The statement further said that the Secretary-General expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Hauwa who have been in a pensive mood since the killing of the young lady.
Guterres noted that those responsible for this killing must be brought to justice at all cost within the fullness of time adding that the well-being of the remaining hostages was of paramount importance to the humanitarian community worldwide.

While calling for the immediate release of the remaining abductees the Secretary-General emphasised that all parties to the conflict must protect aid workers who provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to the millions of people in need in north-east of Nigeria.
Meanwhile, there is massive confusion within the humanitarian community in Maiduguri over the Monday execution of Hauwa Liman by the Abu Musab Albanawi faction of Boko Haram in the northeast of Nigeria.
The fear stems out of the fact that nothing very pertinent has been said about the insurgents over the third abducted worker still with them rather they only vowed to keep her and Leah Sharibu as slaves for as long as they are in the bush fighting for their course.
Sources in the red cross, however, told Tribune Online last weekend that they had a premonition that this bloodshed spilt on an innocent soul would occur which is why they made a last-minute appeal in English, Hausa and Kanuri to the insurgents to please spare the lives of the previous two workers now one.
The message according to the source was to the Federal Government, communities and individuals with influence to work toward the release of the remaining two workers knowing fully well that the same process has been used to release the chibok and Dapchi school girls.
But sadly, the Federal Government was unable to come to the aid of Hauwa who according to unconfirmed reports was forced to kneel down, with her hands tied inside a white hijab, and shot at close range to make their point clear that they meant business.
Now that Saifura and Hauwa have been sacrificed among the three aid workers abducted by the insurgents in an attack on a military facility in Rann Kala-Balge of Borno state on March 1, 2018, it is expected that the government may show more seriousness towards the release of Alice Ngaddah also a nurse and mother of two still in their custody.
The Abu Musab Albanawi group had stormed the Kalabalge IDP camp killed four soldiers and four policemen as well after killing other aid workers before taking away the ladies with them to assist them in health care activities in the bush.
Meanwhile, Ngaddah, who used to work with UNICEF, and Leah Sharibu are the only two high profile abductees that are in the custody of Albanawi for now while Shekau is believed to be keeping the remaining chibok ladies.
President Mohammadu Buhari had in a telephone call to the mother of Sharibu assured that he will do all he can to bring back her daughter but no time frame was attached to the promise which seems to be gradually fading away.
The entire residents of north east Nigeria communities have been looking forward to the release of Leah Sharibu whose pathetic case became headline news when she was alleged to have refused to wear the hijab that was meant to give the impression that she has agreed to be converted from Christianity.
A recent video in which Leah was appealing to the commander in chief, President Mohammed Buhari, however, indicated the teenager finally wearing the hijab meaning that she has actually yielded to their forceful courses and demands.
