UI, African institute partner for youths leadership training

The African Governance Institute for Development (AGID) has established a partnership with the University of Ibadan to provide training for young people in the areas of good governance and leadership. This collaboration aims to strengthen the ties between AGID, a governance and leadership-focused organization, and the University of Ibadan, with the goal of empowering youth across Africa.

During a meeting at the university’s boardroom, Honourable Seyi Adisa, the founder of AGID, led a delegation to discuss this initiative with the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Adebowale. Professor Adebowale praised AGID’s efforts, recognizing their potential to enhance the leadership and governance systems in the country. He emphasized that AGID’s initiatives could serve as a motivating force for Nigerian youths and contribute to curbing the rising trend of brain drain.

Professor Adebowale underscored the importance of national unity and patriotism in the process of nation-building, urging the nation’s youth to believe in and support the Nigerian project. He cited examples from developed countries like the United States of America and Singapore, which have achieved steady progress due to the efforts of their citizens.

The Vice-Chancellor commended AGID’s mission and programs as a step in the right direction and pledged the university’s support for initiatives that focus on capacity building for students and young people. This partnership with the University of Ibadan was facilitated through the Institute of African Studies at the institution.

Professor Adebowale noted, “We must support initiatives like these. The classification of developed countries in the next century will not be based on low technology but on high technology. However, our youth are leaving the country, and I believe it’s due to the existing challenges. I believe your organization can make a significant impact. If there’s anything the university can do to support your cause, please don’t hesitate to inform us; we are here to further motivate and assist.”

Honourable Seyi Adisa, the founder of AGID, emphasised that the multitude of challenges facing the African continent can only be effectively addressed through quality leadership and good governance.

He disclosed AGID’s plans to establish an institute where young people can undertake short courses on governance and leadership. These courses are designed to mentor and empower youth interested in pursuing careers in politics, the public sector, or public office, providing them with the necessary skills and values.
