Tinubu promises partnership with Niger govt on green economy

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has promised to partner with the Niger state government to actualize the green economy for environmental sustainability.

He made this commitment during the two-day 1st Niger State Green Economy Summit held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Centre in Minna, with the theme “Sustainable Future: Harnessing Green Assets and Innovation for Niger State’s Prosperity.”

The President was represented by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi Sabi.

President Tinubu was described as a visionary leader who approved a new solid minerals policy to enhance the efficient use of the country’s resources.

He stated that the present APC-led administration, both at the state and federal levels, was aware of the difficulties faced by citizens but called for understanding and prayers to overcome these challenges.

He assured me that the country’s economy would soon bounce back.

In his address, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State expressed his commitment to safeguarding the environment and securing a prosperous future.

He noted that the summit aimed to galvanise actions at the sub-national and national levels and find ways to collectively harness green assets and innovation for prosperity.

The state government has produced its first Green Economy Blueprint, which outlines a visionary roadmap for development across various sectors, including renewable energy, transportation, infrastructure, agriculture, inclusivity, and tourism.

The governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, pledged to partner with Niger State in realising the green economy’s potential not only in the two states but also in northern Nigeria and the entire country.

He encouraged participants to provide appropriate recommendations for the benefit of future generations.

Former Governor of Niger State, Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, expressed sympathy for his successor, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, who faces the challenge of covering 16 years of the state’s developmental achievements in an eight-year term.

He called for the protection of forests and the avoidance of bush burning to safeguard the environment.

Former Military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, urged governments at both state and national levels to ensure the sustainability and revitalisation of the green economy.

He commended Governors Umaru Bago of Niger and Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno for harnessing the green environment for the betterment of society.
