President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been commended for appointing the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) President, Amb. Solomon Adodo, as a member representing the FCT on the Board of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC).
The combination of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and the Indigenous and Resident Youths of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) eulogised President Tinubu for appointing one of their own in his administration.
Speaking at a joint news conference shortly after a solidarity rally on Thursday in Abuja, the trio of Comrade Igwe Ude-umanta, Comrade Anzaku Shedrack, and Comrade Mukhtar Akoshile—Convener of the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations, National Secretary of NANS, and NYCN Vice President, North Central, respectively—described the appointment of Amb. Solomon Adodo as well-deserved.
They noted that the mega solidarity rally was organised as a show of support for President Tinubu’s youth-oriented policies, especially the appointment of deserving and qualified youths into sensitive and strategic positions in his administration, in line with his electioneering campaigns and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
They expressed excitement that Amb. Solomon Adodo, a long-term resident of the FCT and President of NYCN, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the NCDC board.
“As civil society organisations and youths, it is our duty to both checkmate government policies and support policies that are humane. Just last week, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in exercise of his powers under the 1999 Constitution, approved the appointment of Comrade Solomon Adodo to the Board of NCDC, thereby scoring an important and finishing hat-trick that must be appreciated.
“Through this appointment, a true nationalist, veteran of the civil society struggle, outstanding young leader, national development advocate, and activist was handed a platform to take his years of patriotic service to higher heights. It also once again reaffirms Mr President’s belief in the youth and his commitment to involve them in governance. This has increased his administration’s political mileage in terms of support and mobilisation towards the 2027 presidential election.
“We are therefore here today in our numbers to thank Mr President for this honour done to civil society, Nigerian youths, students, and residents of the Federal Capital Territory, even as we assure Mr President of our unalloyed support and firm solidarity. It is not in our nature to be aloof when and where we are involved. In the coming days, he will be more convinced about this choice of Comrade Adodo which he has made.
“Adodo is one of the comrades that can be trusted to deliver on any given assignment. He has, at several difficult times, mobilised compatriots in defence of matters of best national interest and has defended the Renewed Hope Agenda, even in times when it was not convenient or very fashionable to do so. He has done so with the best of intentions, clarity of purpose, and deep convictions.
“Of course, before Adodo, Mr President had entrusted many other young Nigerians with sensitive assignments, for which most of them are discharging their duties creditably. The young people of this country are taking judicious notice of every position of trust, policy, legislation, and action of the government to improve the constituency of young people in Nigeria. It will surely be rewarded,” they reiterated.
The coalition further warned opposition elements protesting against the well-deserved appointment of Amb. Solomon Adodo to desist from jeopardising the peace and tranquillity of the FCT with their ill-motivated protests and threats.
“It is public knowledge that some faceless and unregistered groups, financed by an opposition Senator as well as the misguided Mandate Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, are disparaging and threatening our dear President for this unassailably great choice of Comrade Adodo.
“For us, we are amazed by the audacity of people who never supported Mr President from day one, only to wake up with threats. In doing that, they are threatening the peace of the FCT and must be held accountable. The fact that their scanty protest on 21 May 2025 was quickly dispersed should serve as a reminder of their irrelevance.
“With what Mr President is doing in Abuja through the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, political support of the FCT is sure for Mr President. By energising Comrade Adodo with this appointment, the support of the genuine FCT indigenes and residents for Mr President is assured,” the group stated.
