A 37 year-old thrift collector, Sunday Ogbonna, who allegedly absconded with the daily contributions of some traders totalling N236,000, was on Friday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Ogbonna is facing a six-count charge bordering on obtaining under false pretences, stealing and breach of the peace.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Kehinde Olatunde told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Nov. 7, 2019, at Otumara Community Village, Ilaje.

He alleged that the defendant had collected the sum of N236,000 as the daily contributions from the Complainants, Ojukwu Okeke, Ifeanyi Chukwu, Angela Sunday and Chidinma Boniface and absconded with it.
According to Olatunde, the offences contravene Sections 168 (d), 287 and 323 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr T. Agbona, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 4, for mention.
