Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully foiled an attempted jailbreak at a correctional facility in Kebbi State and rescued 26 kidnapped victims during a series of operations across the North-West and North-Central zones.

A credible military source confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the operational successes were recorded within the last 24 hours. In Kebbi State, troops thwarted a terrorist attack on the Kangiwa Correctional Centre in Arewa Local Government Area.

The attackers, armed with rifles and riding motorcycles, assaulted a correctional officer and set a patrol vehicle and motorcycle ablaze before troops engaged them.

The military’s response forced the terrorists to flee towards the Niger Republic border, with troops pursuing them and subsequently reinforcing security around the facility.

In a separate operation in Kaduna State, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued seven abducted persons during a fighting patrol in the Kajuru Local Government Area.

Acting on intelligence regarding kidnappers’ movements along the Anguwan Walaha axis, the troops engaged the criminals, neutralising one terrorist and recovering three motorcycles.

In Katsina State, troops of the 17 Brigade rescued a 15-year-old girl who had been abducted from Gidan Bajini village. She was recovered unhurt during a patrol around Pauwa Hill in Kankara Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, troops of CSI Battalion VII rescued 12 hunters and civilians at Kadida village in Tangaza Local Government Area. One injured civilian was evacuated to a hospital for treatment.

The military source stated that these sustained kinetic and non-kinetic operations are continuing to degrade criminal networks and strengthen public confidence in the affected communities.
