The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday, commenced the distribution of food items to vulnerable and less-privileged people across the 44 local government areas of the state.
This is just as he disclosed that 1,060 people would benefit from the gesture, which include food items like millet, corn, among others would also be distributed to the vulnerable group.
He however warned that any government official found wanting in the process of the distribution of the food items would be dealt with accordingly.
Yusuf, who stated this during the Formal Launching /Flag off of the agricultural intervention programme held in Kano, said that the gesture was aimed at cushioning the effects of fuel subsidy removal.
He added that the state government would distribute two hundred and ninety seven thousand 10kg bags of rice to the needy.
He hinted that the government had made a befitting plan through the establishment of various committees to ensure adequate distribution of the food items.
According to him, “people living with disability would be given special consideration during the process of distributing the palliative, geared towards ensuring that the food items reach the vulnerable groups in the society.”
During the ceremony, farm inputs were also distributed to farmers with the sole aim of boosting agricultural products in the state.
The ceremony was graced by the vulnerable groups, government officials and other stakeholders.
While speaking with some of the beneficiaries, Hajia Zenabu Mohammed said, “I am happy with what I was given.
“It is well known that the county is passing through financial constraints because of the removal of fuel subsidy,” adding that this gesture from the government would go a long way to cushion the adverse effect of the fuel subsidy removal.
“I was given rice, millet, groundnut oil and other essential items, in fact I’m very grateful to the government,” She added.
Another beneficiary, Alhaji Sorodunki Yahya stated that “we were here today to receive palliatives from the state government and we were happy.”
