Students applying to Federal University Kachia must earn their scores — VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State, Professor William Barnabas Qurix, has said that students who want to study at the university must earn their scores.

He also expressed his commitment to making the university a world-class citadel of learning that will groom graduates grounded in various fields of applied sciences.

Professor Qurix, who resumed work at the university campus alongside other principal officers after their inauguration by the Minister of Education, said the institution would be built on merit and excellence.

He said, “Students wishing to study in the school must earn their score on merit.

“Our mission is to train men and women, equip them with knowledge and skills that can bring transformational development and progress. Indeed, progress and development have come to the people.

“This requires focus, hard work, partnerships, transnational education, and linkages. So, we will knock on the doors of world universities to seek partnerships,” he said.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university has the potential for high impact on the people of Nigeria.

Professor Qurix thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding him worthy to be the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and pledged his total commitment to the progress and development of the university.

He acknowledged the support of several individuals, including His Excellency Vice President Kashim Shettima, His Excellency Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Uba Sani, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, and Distinguished Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, whose genius and far-sightedness produced the unique bill that established the university.

Others acknowledged include Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Pro-Chancellor; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; General M. L. Agwai; Justice K. B. Akaas; Dr Durungwa; Professor Abubakar Rasheed; Engineer Andy Yakubu; and Reverend J. Hayab.

The Vice-Chancellor also thanked the paramount ruler of Kachia, the council chairman, and the entire community for the warm reception he received and their pledge to support the growth of the university.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who was at the university, expressed his commitment to assisting the institution while thanking President Tinubu for approving the university for the people of Southern Kaduna.

In their separate comments, the council chairman of Kachia Local Government and the lawmaker representing Kachia Constituency at the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honourable Peter Agite, commended the president for establishing the Federal University of Applied Sciences.

The chairman of the local government, Dr Manzo Maigari, affirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the university’s growth and ensuring its success. He emphasised that the university must be seen as a place of unity by all.

“This marks the beginning of a transformative era, one that will drive educational excellence and innovation in the area.”

Among the entourage that received the Vice-Chancellor and his team were esteemed traditional leaders, clergy, lawmakers, stakeholders, and community leaders.
