The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has called on politicians in the state to stop politicizing the issue of insecurity.
The governor made this statement on Tuesday while receiving the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, who was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
The Minister’s visit to Sokoto was in response to President Bola Tinubu’s directive, which instructed the Minister and the Defence Chiefs to relocate to Sokoto to support the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji in their fight against banditry in the state.
Aliyu emphasized that his administration has been providing substantial support to security agents since he assumed office as governor.
“Let me, at this juncture, call on our people to stop politicizing the issue of security in the state. We should cease spreading or sharing any fake information related to security. These bad elements do not care if you are in PDP, APC, or APGA. They do not know which religion we practice, and that is why we must unite to address them.”
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank President Bola Tinubu for directing you to come to Sokoto State to help end the issue of insecurity.”
He added that his administration has taken measures to combat banditry by providing necessary support to all security agencies in the state.
“This includes operational vehicles and other logistics to ease their work. We have also recruited 200 individuals from each of the 23 local governments into the Sokoto Community Guard Corps to complement the efforts of the security teams.”
“As you are aware, security matters should not be for public display. Your Excellency, we are making significant efforts. I am confident that with your presence today, the people of the state will feel more secure, knowing you are a man of your word.”

He assured that the state government will continue to support security agencies, especially the troops of Operation Hadarin Daji, to ensure they fulfill their responsibility of securing the state.
In his remarks, the Minister of State for Defence, Muhammad Bello Matawalle, urged residents of the state to continue supporting security agencies by providing adequate information.
He said that security agents rely on information from residents to address the rising cases of insecurity.
“Just as we did when I was governor of Zamfara State, I call on the people of Sokoto State to consistently provide information to security agents.
If you observe someone who is not engaged in legitimate work but is changing cars and spending money lavishly, please report them immediately. We are here to eliminate the bad elements among us, and with God’s grace, we will succeed in doing so.”
