The six governors of the South-South region are currently meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital and the issues of security, the controversy of the Value Added Tax, the 2023 general elections, among others are expected to top discussions at the meeting.
The South-South Governors were wholly Peoples Democratic Party until recently when Prof Ben Ayade of Cross-River defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) seemingly dividing what has been a politically united zone.
It could not be immediately confirmed if he is been at the meeting with other governors but sources at the Brick House confided that apart from the 2023 election, the governors will also discuss issues of the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the ban on open grazing in the zone.
The source said: “From what I gathered, the South-South governors will discuss the issue of the 2023 presidential election. You know from the look of things, it will likely come to the Southern part of the country.
“Prominent politicians from the region, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, seem to have been pencilled down as possible contenders.
“Also, the issue of VAT and ban on open grazing in the zone will be discussed. Remember, most of the state governors have assented to the Anti-Open Grazing Bill passed by their various State House of Assembly.”
