A social media influencer, Ipadeola Abiodun Oriyomi, also the CEO of Swag Omoluabi blog, recently explained what the concept of the ‘influencer’ tag entails.
He said, “I am an entrepreneur and also a brand influencer, I influence companies’ brands, more like a brand ambassador.”
He continued, “A lot of people on social media bear the brand-influencer tag and it is becoming fashionable for anyone to claim that. Being a brand influencer has a lot of responsibilities attached to it, so everyone can’t be a brand influencer.”
To be an influencer, he said, “you must be trustworthy and also a notable person.”
On how a social media user can be engaged as a brand influencer, he stated, “You have to let brands know you are open to collaboration, and you have to be consistently optimising your social media influence.”
For Oriyomi, there is no worse moment as a brand influencer. Of his best experience, he said, “That was when I got an endorsement from a fintech operator in Nigeria.”
For those seeking to become notable brand influencers, he offered a piece of advice, “Be consistent. Be real. Be a social media lover―and don’t fake it.”
Oriyomi, 26, graduated from Lagos State Polytechnic with a Higher National Diploma in Accounting and is best known for his blog, Swag Omoluabi.
“Although I am an introvert, I am a social media lover. It is a platform that is available for anyone irrespective of your character type. With the way the world is going, everyone has to become social media savvy, and business owners have to recognise the social media, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, as a marketplace where you can reach all your customers,” he said.
