A military airstrike in Katsina has resulted in the deaths of six civilians in Yauni community, Zakka ward of Safana Local Government Area.
The airstrike occurred after a gun duel between security personnel and bandits, which had planned to attack voters in Zakka village during the local government election on Saturday.
Security agents intervened, leading to an exchange of fire, and subsequently, a military fighter jet dropped a bomb on Yauni community.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of civilians in the area and the need for greater precision in military operations.
“It was after that incident that the military fighter jet, which most likely came to offer reinforcement, dropped a bomb at Yauni community, south of Zakka, which led to the death of six members of a family, while one woman sustained injuries,” a souce told Daily Trust.
This is not the first time that Katsina residents have lost their lives in accidental airstrikes.
The incident has sparked renewed calls for the military to take greater care to avoid civilian casualties in its operations.
