The Seriki Hausawa of Ibadan land, Alhaji Dahiru Zingeri, has suspended the Meiuguwa Sasa, Alhaji Haruna Meyasin, over alleged insubordination.
This announcement was made during a press briefing on Monday at the Palace of the Seriki Hausawa of Ibadan Land in Sabo, attended by notable figures, including the Seriki Hausawa of Ise Ekiti, Alhaji Usman Garuba.
Alhaji Zingeri stated that as the Seriki Hausa, he is the only person crowned and recognised with the mandate to appoint lesser chiefs for administrative convenience. He alleged that the Meyasin cabinet had failed to adhere to the rules and regulations governing the Hausa community in Ibadan land, leading to its dissolution.
He explained, “The reason I, along with my council members, took this action is because of insubordination. The Olubadan has given an order, and he (Meiuguwa) refused to obey, including our order, and he kept insulting our people, so we wielded the big stick because of his insubordination.”
Zingeri emphasised the importance of maintaining peace within the Hausa community, stating, “We don’t want trouble in the Hausa community; we don’t want problems in Oyo State, and we want peace to reign. Hausa, we are all the same, and the issue of Hausa against each other is not acceptable, so we did that because of insubordination.”
He further claimed that the actions of Meyasin had led to unrest among the people of Sasa, who reportedly supported Zingeri’s decision. Zingeri mentioned, “There had been reported cases of appointment of other chiefs by Meiuguwa Sasa without the permission of Seriki Hausawa. We can’t have double titles within the Hausawa community, but he insisted and went ahead to install those titles.”
In contrast, the Chiroma of Seriki Sasa, Ahmed Haruna, contended that Meyasin remains the Seriki Sasa. He asserted that the Seriki Hausawa does not have the authority to suspend him, as he was not turbaned by Zingeri.
“Nobody can suspend our Seriki Sasa; we are not aware of the suspension, and no letter to that effect has been sent to us,” Haruna stated.
