During a recent football match on the 30th of October, Sergio Aguero started his second game for Barcelona playing against Alves, where Sergio suffered from chest pains and had difficulty breathing just before half-time. After a quick medical intervention on the field, Sergio was still able to make his way off the field on his own two feet, leading fans to believe that everything was okay. As it stands right now, we are still waiting for the final verdict on the outcome of his apparent condition. But we do have some details to share and some words from Sergio himself.
What We Know
As soon as Sergio left the field, he was transported to a hospital for cardiac analysis. In a statement shortly after the incident, Barcelona had this to say, “Sergio Aguero was struggling with chest pain for much of the first half and was replaced by Philippe Coutinho at half-time and then taken to hospital for cardiac analysis”. A few days later, it became clear that Sergio’s condition was not a momentary one. There have yet to be any official reports on the nature of the problem, although it has been claimed that he has a nature of cardiac arrhythmia, giving him an irregular heartbeat.
A few days after the initial incident, Barcelona came out with the following statement, “The first team player Sergio Aguero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr Josep Brugada. He is unavailable for selection and during the next three months the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process.”
Sad news indeed, but good that he is receiving the medical help required to aid in his condition and hopefully get back on the field soon. Sergio seems to be handling the situation well with a statement from Sergi Barjuan “I talked to him, and he’s calm. He’s confined to his room, but considering the situation, he’s calm.” Fortunately, there has been a great out pour of support for Sergio from colleagues and fans alike.
The Rumours
While the world patiently waits for new on Sergios recovery and potential future in football, there have been a few speculations and rumours going around. The biggest of these rumours was enough to garner even the attention of Sergio himself. While we are unsure of where the initial rumour started, the first major report was from Catalunya Radio, who suggested that doctors have recommended Sergio consider retiring from football. He can then spend his time enjoying the tragamonedas Chile offers instead, as his condition is extremely serious.
Sergio’s Take
Sergio has taken to twitter to share his views on the situation “Given the rumours, I will say that I am following the advice of the club’s doctors, doing tests and treatment and seeing my progress during the next 90 days. Always positive,”.
Barcelona has remained silent about ongoings, no doubt awaiting progress on Sergio’s condition and treatment thereof. As far as it stands now, we have no indication on the final outcome and will need to wait until a final verdict is released in January. Until then, it is good to know that Sergio remains in positive spirits and in the best possible hands.
