The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Oluyinka Soleye, has charged troops of the operation to either send Lakurawa agents to hell or wherever they come from, away from Sokoto.
The Army Chief stated this on Friday in Sokoto when he visited COAS Intervention Tactical Headquarters in Balle town, Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Speaking while addressing the troops, he said his visit was to encourage them in the discharge of their duties and to assure them of maximum support from the Army headquarters.
“I am here to check on you and encourage you in your work. I want to tell you that we are together with you.
“Do whatever you can do to either send the Lakurawa bandits to hell or wherever they come from,” he added.
Also speaking in his remarks, the Chairman of Gudu Local Government, Buhari Ahmad Kurdilla, commended troops for their efforts in keeping the local government safe from bandits and Lakurawa agents.
He said the Lakurawa bandits had been in existence in the local government for up to eight years but made a permanent stay in the just-concluded year.
“They have been coming here and leaving for about eight years now, but it was just last year that they decided to make a permanent stay here.
“They used to come in to harass our people, block roads to kidnap, rustle our animals, and also collect taxes from our people.”
The Chairman also denied the presence of any French army in the local government territory while dismissing claims of their presence by the head of the military junta in Niger Republic, but confirmed the presence of the Lakurawa bandits in the town for about eight years now.
He also said the Lakurawa bandits enter the country through Niger Republic.
Recall that the head of the military junta in the neighbouring country, Abdulrahmouni Tchaini, alleged that Nigerian leaders had engaged the French Army situated in a border town between the two countries.
Reacting, the Chairman of the local government denied the claims while reaffirming that he has no knowledge of any French army in the local government.
“I also heard of such a claim but I don’t know of any presence of any foreign troops in this area.
“I don’t know of any place called Gaba as mentioned in the video in this state or across the north-west part of this country,” he added.
