The Senate has passed a bill seeking to repeal and re-enact the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) Act, introducing a legislative framework to make citizen registration mandatory.
The proposed law aims to establish a cost-effective and globally compliant identity management system in Nigeria. Once signed into law, the bill is expected to enhance inclusion and address inaccuracies in the current national database.
It provides for the creation of a centralized database and a commission responsible for registering citizens and issuing identity cards.
Meanwhile, The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bala Bello as the Part-Time Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), along with five non-executive directors.
