Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area of Delta State, Eugene Okpe Inoaghan, has commenced repairs on the bad portions of Warri-Sapele road.
This is coming on the heels of several complaints by road users of the hardship they face when plying the route.
In the past weeks heavy trucks had been stocked on the gullies, causing gridlock.
In spite of being a federal road which links Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states, it has suffered neglect in the last 10 years.
Speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, the council chairman said the road served both indigenes and non-indigenes in the state, adding that users have suffered psychological torture in their attempt to navigate the road.
He said to get the bad spots fixed he had to take permission from the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
Inoaghan said that if governments at all levels are proactive, the masses would find it difficult to identify lapses.
Also speaking to the Nigerian Tribune, Mr. Felix Ugbugbe, a transporter, thanked the council chairman for the gesture, pointing out that he least expected the gesture from Inoaghan because the road in question is a federal road.
Others who spoke also praised the chairman of Sapele Local Government Area for his proactive approach.
