As part of their humanitarian service, Rotary Club Ibadan Jericho Metro, in conjunction with Sara and Ken George, on Thursday distributed foodstuff to the under-privileged in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
50 indigent people benefited from the initiative in the monthly food outreach which was done in collaboration with George SKDD Foundation, Houston, Texas, U.S.A.
Speaking, the president of the club, Mr Damilola Olaleye, said the initiative was to complement the efforts of the government in helping the needy in the society.
Olaleye disclosed that the monthly food outreach, as one of the programmes of the Rotary Club, is to provide food to the under-privileged in Ibadan metropolis and environs.
“In the food package provided, we have rice, beans, noodles, sugar, fish, and beverages which, we believe, will sustain them for a month.
“This will be done every month; we are also coming back in December during the festive period,” he said.
Olaleye also revealed that the club had embarked on several projects including the renovation of the primary healthcare centre at Oluyole and donation of books to Baptist High School, Oke-Ado.
Also, club’s Director of Services, Mrs Lara Oluborode, said the club has been known for its contribution to the welfare and wellbeing of humanity, as it was done in the eradication of polio in the country.
Oluborode said the food outreach was to support the needy with food that would promote their overall health and well-being.
Some of the beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude to the club, noting the gesture would go a long way in their daily needs.
Mr Tairu Somori, who is one of the beneficiaries said the food items were timely and would address the scarcity of food being experienced by his family.
