Judges of the High Court of Rivers State will resume normal court sittings on Thursday, September 17, 2026, following the expiration of their annual vacation.

The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, had earlier directed the state High Court judges to proceed on their annual recess from Monday, July 20 to Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Registrar of the High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, urging the legal community and the general public to take note of the official resumption date.

The statement also quoted Justice Chibuzor-Amadi as fixing Thursday, September 24, 2026, for the ceremonial opening of the 2026/2027 legal year of the Rivers State Judiciary.

According to the Chief Judge, activities for the new legal year will commence with a Special Church Service at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Rebisi, Garrison, Port Harcourt.

This will be immediately followed by a Special Court Session at the Ceremonial Court Hall, Block C, High Court Complex, Port Harcourt.
